Richard Willis Gordon

1926-11-08 2018-12-23
Richard Willis Gordon was God's gift to his loving parents, James Richard and Virginia Willis Gordon of Owensboro Kentucky.  His earthly journey began on November 8, 1926, and continued until December 23, 2018, when he went home to his Heavenly Father. Richard was called to enlist in the United States Army in 1946 where he served until his honorable discharge at the end of World War II in 1947. Soon after Richard return, Edsel Thruston, a good high school friend, introduced Richard to his sister, Amanda Evelyn Thruston.  Initially, Amanda tried to ignore young Richard, but she was bitten by the love bug, and they began a courtship that led to their marriage on February 18, 1950.  Their union was blessed with two children, Adrian and Thaya.  He was faithful to the vows he took, " ... until death us do part", and sadly, he said goodbye to the love of his life on April 30, 2016, when she went home to be with the Lord. Reverend Gordon has left his footprints on the hearts of the congregation and the community. He was a man of great integraity and faith, a role model for Godly living, a humble servant, a mighty preacher of the Gospel, a counselor and confidant, a stylish dresser, and a lover of sweets  He will be remebered for his rich baritone bellowing out his favorite song:  If I Can Help Somebody.  Reverand Gordon was a faithful member of the Rowan Family Reunion and will be greatly missed.  We know he fought the good fight and has won his race.  Even though he is in the best hands possible, he will always be missed and loved.  Our Chain has been broken, but our memories of him and his wife will be everlasting.
