Paul Alvin Randle

— Paul Alvin Randle, 95, of Danville, completed his earthly journey at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at his residence. He was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Paris, Tenn., the son of Fulton and Eula Wilkins Randle. He was formerly married to Daisy Laster, Evelena Jackson and Arletta Smith. They preceded him in death. Paul later married B. Rose Hayden (Beverly Hayden Woodard). He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of Danville. Two daughters: Carolyn (Millege) Williams and Janet Randle, both of Danville. Four stepsons” Charles Brooks Jr. of Florida, Davey Woodard Jr. of Pomona Calif., Robin Woodard of Indianapolis and Randy Woodard of Champaign. Two stepdaughters: Dorothy Carter and Jacqueline Woodard-Smith, both of Danville. A sister: Opal (Amos) Williams of Danville. 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren. Special nephew: Larry McGee and special niece: Myra Washington, both of San Francisco, Calif. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.

Paul attended school in Henry County Training School in Paris, Tenn. He later moved to Danville and attended Danville public schools. He was raised by Laura Lee in the main house of the colored children home until he was 18. He went to work for A.D. Hayes delivering groceries. Paul later worked as a chef at Lakeview Hospital. He retired from General Motors. He was a member of Rowan Family reunion and Hayden Phelps reunion. He was a member of UAW Local 579. Paul was a lifetime member of Allen Chapel AME Church. He enjoyed reading the Bible. He was a pastor’s Steward for more than 50 years and then later Stewart Emeritus. Paul enjoyed shopping (known as Danville’s best dressed man), cooking, and an avid Chicago Cubs fan from its inception and a L.A. Lakers fan. During his latter years, Paul traveled extensively. He visited the Holy Land. He cruised the Caribbean passing through the Panama Canal. He flew to New Zealand and he cruised to Ensenada Mexico, via way of Bora-Bora, French Society Island and Hawaii. He cruised to Alaska, highlighted with a “dog sled ride.” He took a helicopter ride deep into the Grand Canyon. Ending his travel with a flight to Istanbul Turkey. Cruising the Riviera to Barcelona. Spain, continuing through Gibraltar and crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Miami for his last cruise. He rode a camel and visited the wilderness.

Home going celebration will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Allen Chapel AME Church, 503 N. Jackson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Arthur Cortez. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., is in charge of arrangements.
