
Joseph Moorman, Sr.
1948-09-23 2025-06-03Joseph Austin Moorman, Sr., 76, of Owensboro, KY gained his wings on June 3, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born Sept. 23, 1948, to the late Earl Joseph Moorman, Sr. and Sallye Frances Taylor Moorman,the grandson of Lucian Moorman and Pearl Hayden Moorman, the great-grandson of James M. Hayden and Julia Rowan, the great-great-grandson of Henry Rowan and Mary Mundt Rowan, and the great-great-great-grandson of Harry and Catherine Rowan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Sallye Lorraine Moorman; three sisters, Regina Earlyne Adams, Teresa Lyniece Durr, and Velita Rose Douglas; three brothers, Louis Dion Moorman, Russell Delano Moorman, and Martin Maurice Moorman, Sr.; one granddaughter, Winter Allen. Those left to cherish his memory include his companion and one true love, Lourendy Moorman Crowe; five children, Joseph Austin (Julia) Moorman, Jr., Paul Anthony (Jennifer) Moorman, Russell Markice (Kara) Moorman, Natassia Dailon Douglas all of Owensboro, Janie Louise (Tyrone) Oliver of Louisville; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, Nina Simone Oliver; four brothers, Michael (Patricia) Moorman, Dewayne (Debbie) Moorman, Adriane (Kristie) Moorman all of Owensboro, and Earl (Katherine) Moorman, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; two uncles, Joe Benedict Moorman and Phillip Rodney (Joyce) Moorman, all of Owensboro.
At age 18, Joseph went to serve his country in the U S Army, Vietnam War. He was married to Lourendy Johnson while in the Army. They were married for 22 years and had 5 children. He loved listening to his music and dancing to James Brown and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family, riding in his truck with his bag of candy and his dogs, Frisby and Lucky. He would keep you laughing with his quick wit and brutal but funny honesty in what he thought about you.
There will be a memorial service with military honors at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Jeremiah L. Parks officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service.
