Lineage: The Origin of the Rowan Family

The root of our tree begins with Harry and Catherine Rowan, who were both born in Virginia between 1805-1807.  Harry and Catherine migrated to Kentucky and were blessed with 7 children: Henry, Gates, Ed, Levi, James, Hiram, and Annie.

Our DNA spans various regions of Africa (ex. Nigeria & Cameroon/Congo) as well as England and other European countries.

From slavery to freedom, for over 125 years, we have dismantled the chains that kept us apart and created chains of love.

Legacy: The First Rowan Family Reunion

Legend has it that the children of Henry and Mary Rowan thought it would bring sunshine into their mother’s life to request that all her children, their families and as many relatives as possible meet at her home on a certain day to have dinner together.  This was the birth of the Rowan Reunion, which was held at Sutherland Station, Kentucky, in 1896.

Henry is the eldest son of Harry and Catherine Rowan.  Mary is the daughter of Giles Munt and Maria Peggy Richardson. We honor Henry & Mary and their descendants for initiating this amazing fellowship. We recognize the contributions of every branch and their descendants (including in-laws and extended family) for ensuring the legacy continues and the chain remains unbreakable.
